Anyway, moving on from my cucumber ramble...What a hot few days! I forgot what it could be like in July! On days like today, it is easy to remember to drink a lot of water!
The big news? All of the garlic is harvested and curing! (See garlic tower face above!) This means we can start eating it pronto! When garlic is eaten before it is fully cured, it is called green garlic. It is delicious roasted in whole heads, or prepared any of the ways regular garlic is. The important thing to remember is to keep it in the fridge.
This coming weekend, many of the onions will begin on the road to being cured as well. I am so excited about both of these crops and am feeling fortunate that they are coming through for me.
Other than that, the schedule is just chugging along, with or without me. I am starting to catch up, I can feel it! Hope I see you at the markets this week!
I am sorry to say that the turnips and the salad mix quit on us this week. The turnips i saw coming, but the salad mix? I was caught unawares. I am as sorry to see it go as anyone. Never fear, both will be back. In the meantime, lets indulge in some chopped salads with sparse greenery (cuke-parsley, squash-kale, cuke-onion-fennel, fennel-lemon-kale... you know the kind I mean!)
Fennel- You have got to try roasting this with a little olive oil and apple cider vinager, stems and all, then tossing it with rice and chickpeas. I know, a little hot for oven-work, but I'll say, it was worth it!
Flowers (sunflowers too!)
Parsley sage Oregano chives Thyme
And new this week!!!!
Peppers-sweet- just a few coming in.
Peppers-hot! A little to start
Potatoes- Back again! Fingerlings! Great for roasting and pan sauteeing.
