It felt so strange to be on an airplane at seven in the morning Saturday instead of driving to Metuchen Market. I felt free as a bird! We still had to get up super early, but it felt like vacation the entire time. It was so good to see family and to share in the joy of our family growing. And it didn't hurt that I love the Texas landscape, lots of live oak and prickly pear cactus. So different from New Jersey. In fact, we enjoyed it so much, Jim and I walked around Austin wondering why we didn't live there until we remembered that if we did, we would have been working right then. We are both glad to be back .
And what a wonder to be back to. It is cold, it rained, there are weeds, there are deer, and there are vegetables!! Sadly, some deer have discovered the head lettuce. We knew it was good, and now they do too. I will see what I can do to mitigate. There is a lot of new stuff coming in through the couple weeks. Kohlrabi, cabbage, carrots, beets... This week, spinach is new to the plate! I am excited that it is really feeling like fall. Come and get your classy greens!
