But, the cucumbers! Oh yeah, there are a lot of them! And they are delicious sliced thin, mixed with shredded kale, chopped sweet salad turnips, and onion then sprinkled with balsamic vinegar, salt, and olive oil! I just finished eating that and I was not disappointed. I think I will give up my impatience and just be grateful that we get to indulge in that summer special.
Those hot days helped dry out the ground and my mind. I came out of my soggy stupor and realized oh my gosh, there is still so much to do! Fall plantings are coming up fast. It is important to get them in the ground on schedule so they have time to get delicious before the cold. This means its me, the drag mower (it was a push mower until I ran it over), and the Troy Bilt Horse rototiller out in the field prepping it as tenderly as we can.
The next issue of Edible Jersey is out! Check out my essay about deer fencing! If you missed the last issue, I just discovered that they have an online version too. So near or far, you can see the publication.
That's all I have for you this week. I hope that the summer is being as good to you as it is to me!
