Sunday and Monday, with the help of some wonderful volunteers, all of the onions were taken from the field and set to cure in the greenhouse. The heat of the house seals in all of their oniony goodness while their outers dry out. This dry weather was kind to our onions left in the field. With more rain, there would have been more pressure to get them out of the field earlier. It is amazing how well these particular varieties save. I still have some onions from last year’s harvest!
New this week:
Ground Cherries!!! Nature’s own individually wrapped candies! They taste almost like pineapple, definitely tropical, and when you hold them in your hand, they feel precious. Check ‘em out!
Melon!!!!! Heirloom cantaloupe and pocket melon. Sweet as the day and juicy as anything. There were a few that had some bumps and bruises, and I ate them today to carry me through. They are amazing. I saved lots for everyone.
