So about this past week, well, I heeded some admirable advice and took a much needed rest. Sunday, then Monday, and then even part of Tuesday! Oh my gosh, it felt strange, but let me tell you, I feel human again! It is wonderful. I still had to stop by the farm and make sure everything was in order, but no laboring.
Some of the time off, I took care of much needed home tasks (for example my driver's side truck window has been stuck in the down position for over a month-- really felt that in the rain). Jim and I watched a zombie movie, which was totally scary. Exie sat in my lap and lost some hair as a result. My dreams haven't been quite the same since.
I read library books. Mystery crime novels and a book about tractors and small engine repair. I know, I know, the tractor book sounds like work, but it is really interesting! I am learning all kinds of basic things, that everyone else probably already knows, and I should know. It is great! This basic education is important to my growth as a farmer, I just feel lucky that I enjoy it enough to call it relaxing.
However, I think the best part of my mini vacation was going to round valley on Monday with Exie the dog. I let her off leash and we followed a path by the water while playing a game of hide and seek. I always hide and Exie always seeks. Really, this game is more like wait for the dog to be distracted and then sneak off and wait for her to find me. Eventually my hiding places extended to trees. That was fascinating because I got to watch her follow my trail. She could get close, but never looked up until I made a sound. What a dog!
It was a great few days and now I am back in the swing, feeling ready to go. Looking forward to seeing you at market if you make it!
