The first farmers' market of the year went wonderfully. It was as I thought it would be: a joyous smiling reunion. I had such a wonderful time talking and checking in with everyone. And this week, all of that markets!! Somerville, I can't wait to see you again! And Chatham, I can't wait to meet you!
Even with all that hustle and bustle of the usual farm work, we squeezed in some time for Jeff McConnell, a glass plate collodial photographer. He came out to the farm Monday and took some amazing photos of Peter and me. It is such a process and really made me feel like had gone back in time. The process is so much slower and so much quieter than most phases of modern photography. And all of the things that are done automatically by my phone's camera had to be thought out and done by Jeff. Taking the picture was just taking the cap off the camera and putting it back on. Check out his work here.
On a foodie note, try out this simple kohlrabi salad:
Two Kohlrabi- peeled, cubed, and steamed
2-3 T Yogurt (you can use sour cream instead)
Parsley (dill/basil/cilantro/any fresh herb you have on hand and love)
Mix the Kohlrabi and yogurt together, then add herb of choice to taste. I also put salt and pepper in mine. Good served while kohlrabi is still warm, or chilled. My favorite now.
