There are two exciting events coming up this weekend!
We are having a weeding party to catapult us into the lead of the arms race against them. We will be weeding Sunday from 12-4 and then indulging in pizza and beer, with perhaps some games. If you would like to come, please let me know so we can get enough pizza. And I will send you the address. We are about 50 minutes from Metuchen, 30 minutes from Somerville, and 15 minutes from Flemington
And Metuchen market starts this week. This year it will be held in the senior center parking lot, just across from the commuter lot and runs from 9-2. We are so happy to be back with our market family and bring all the greens and goodies.
I dug one up the other day, and despite the fact that the leaves are shriveled, there are budding roots coming from the stem. Here is hoping they kick it into high gear and out compete some weeds!
Our beets are looking beautiful. To counter that good news, there is some bad news: deer are infiltrating the field. We are going to bait the fence more aggressively, mow down tall standing grasses that let the deer feel safe, and hope that staying at the farm until dusk is enough to scare them off. They have crunched some of our strawberry plants (all of them will make it back), some of the head lettuce (an excuse for me to eat a little), some pea shoots, and the beet greens. Horrible damage will be averted.
